There is a lot to learn about transitioning to an online tournament format. If you are a competitor this year, please access both documents to make your self familiar with the rules, settings, and procedures for your event!

CHssa 2020-2021 Online Tournament Rules

Many rules that would apply to in-person tournaments are now being paused or removed for the duration of these season. This includes ending the restrictions of internet use in a round, speeches that do not require prep are allowed to be pre-recorded, and more. Please make sure that you know the rule changes for your event by accessing the California High School Speech Association’s rules. CVFL (your league) adopting this state-wide organization’s rules in an effort to make competition easier and more equitable.

Classroom.cloud is an NSDA property. Having used this platform at the 2020 Nationals, there are many resources to help teams, students and coaches feel prepared for their first tournament. Please use these resources for your team.

Join the CVFL Remind App

Our league is now using the Remind App to ensure equal-access communication before, during, and after tournaments. CVFL Tabroom will use the Remind App to announce room changes, posting changes, locate competitors and help communicate with judges!

Common questions and answers in transitioning from in-person to on-line tournaments:

Q: Where do we go to register for tournaments?

A: All teams will register through the website tabroom.com. This year CVFL will not be using joyoftournaments.com

Do students need a tabroom.com account?

A: Yes. Coaches will need to establish themselves as the coach of their school team. Students can then be associated with that school. Use this link by clicking hereto learn about to create a new team in tabroom.com.

Q: How do students compete?

A: Students will use a series of locked, virtual rooms through the use of a client software known as Classroom.Cloud which integrates with Tabroom to provide a complete online tournament. 

Q: How secure is this Classrooms site?  

 A:   On the day of the tournaments, only students with Tabroom accounts will receive room assignments and the passwords to the rooms. This provides two layers of protection from the Zoom rooms from being “public” and preventing “just anyone” from coming into them. 

Q: What will we be doing for wards?

Team awards and results will be announced via Youtube livestream so to at all students can learn the results of the tournament at the same time, watch with family or friends, or cheer for competitors.

Q.  How do judges make themselves available for judging?

A: All judge need to create accounts on tabroom.com as well. 

Q: How do students provide their pre-corded speeches?

A: In the CVFL guidance the procedures and rules for how to upload videos (what to do and NOT TO do ) are located in a compact PDF.
